Constance Mitchell, Aaron Wicks, and others, have portrayed the first salvo in a possible Rochester Mayoral race as the old white man (Bob Duffy) telling the young black woman (Lovely Warren) to wait her turn.
Are Duffy’s statement and Mayor Tom Richards’ early declaration to run bald-faced prejudice, or are the mayor and former mayor both trying to nurture Rochester’s fragile re-birth?
Is the current regime trying to head off a two-horse race, à la Norwood vs. Duffy, or the blizzard of Mayoral candidates in ’93?
In this first installment of Smugtown Soapbox, we are asking you to speak out on why a man, one step removed from the state’s highest office, would publically discourage another elected official from seeking higher office, and what’s in it for Duffy, Warren, Cuomo, Morelle, Gantt, every ambitious citizen considering a run for office, and you.
Thank you.
